Counteracting the language barrier in care - with individual German courses for care from iQ

"Creating places for encounters, education, accompaniment and participation" is considered the vision of the Großheppacher Schwesternschaft Foundation. In doing so, the church foundation focuses, among other things, on the care and support of the elderly, where professionally sound but at the same time humanly empathetic communication is necessary.

The initial situation

The goal of the Großheppacher Schwesternschaft Foundation is to expand the general German language skills as well as nursing-specific terminology of employees with a migration background at the residential and nursing center in Weinstadt-Großheppach.

Since the employees should not only improve their general German skills, but also their job-specific German skills, a German course was needed that was specifically geared to nursing care - the Großheppacher Schwesternschaft Foundation obtained this from the iQ language school, which already has many years of expertise in learning German with a focus on nursing care.

The measure of iQ

The German language skills of the 15 employees were individually assessed before the start of the online German course according to the Common European Framework of Reference (A1 - C2).

With two separate small groups, the individual level of knowledge can be taken into account and personal support from our experienced instructors can be ensured.

"The German lessons took place reliably weekly via video. We were able to follow the progress of the German course at any time and determine the focus of the content that was relevant for us."

Flexible scheduling with the Großheppacher Schwesternschaft Foundation is always organized via the personal contact person at iQ and adapted as best as possible to the given framework conditions (such as working hours).

The result

Through the German courses for nursing from iQ, the Großheppacher Schwesternschaft Foundation enables its employees to take part in a company training measure in order to create the basis for a good working atmosphere and togetherness with improved German language skills.

During the nursing German course, general German skills (B2) as well as nursing-specific vocabulary were taught, enabling employees to communicate better and give themselves more confidence in their day-to-day work.
